After a 5 hour drive to Memphis, we reached TO Fuller State Park. This is the first time we got to setup the trailer and not tear it down first thing in the morning. The play structure was epic with a bouncy bridge that the kids raved about.
We started the day with a trip to the hotel that Martin Luther King Jr was killed at. It has since become a Civil Rights Museum. Charlotte and John were well behaved but there wasn't a ton with them to experience. We tried to explain to Aisling the US history as related to the persecution of people of colour - the museum explored slavery to the civil war to reconstruction to Jim Crow to the civil rights movement and beyond.
Afterwards, we explored Beale St. We settled into a patio with a live band and spent the rest of the afternoon dancing and relaxing. Turns out there was a special guest singer singing Hey Joe that afternoon. John, Aisling and Charlotte played drums with a street performer. Another street performer jumped over five kids in a row with Aisling being one of them. It was a great day.
Alas, warmth still aluded us. Fortunately, we were travelling to New Orleans the next day. After a 7 hour drive, we arrived in New Orleans to a high of 13 degrees. As the kids say... smh.
Hopefully warmer days ahead.
So good to see everyone enjoying themselves.
