Sunday, June 19th - Mill Creek Falls Scenic Area to Mount Hood National Forest, Oregon - Day 128
We awoke for Father’s Day surrounded by people. The parking lot was full. I’m sure no one noticed our little pop-up trailer sitting in the corner of the parking lot. I got to sleep in a bit and was woken up by children with a breakfast of eggs and bacon. It was delicious.
Our parking lot campsite was also the trailhead for a walk to two waterfalls. We decided to start the day with a hike. We walked down a series of switchbacks to an easy path that ran between two beautiful waterfalls. The water level was high due to snowmelt, so the waterfalls were intense.
We started to drive towards Crater Lake but stopped to hike the Natural Bridge trail. At one point lava was flowing and the top hardened while liquid lava stayed hot underneath. When the liquid lava drains out it leaves a tunnel under rock which, in this case, water started to flow through. The water level was so high that water was going through the tunnel and over the natural bridge, but you could still see the tube spitting out a flow of water into the river.
To be continued....
