Oregon is beautiful in the lushness of the forests that seem to be everywhere. Mountains always were in the distance framing every picture. We drove north towards Columbia gorge and Mount Hood but we were losing daylight fast. We decided to stop at Smith Rock State Park. These rock formations come out of nowhere and are stunning. The park itself features thousands of different climbing routes. We took a short trail to a viewpoint and then down towards the river itself. We had a fantastic view of the sunset behind the rocks and turned around to go back to the car.
We were considering driving to Washington but we wanted to see Mount Hood. We found a parking lot for a snow park in the Mount Hood National Forest to set-up for the night. Gen was impressed the warming centre was still open and had wood to burn available.
