Sunday, July 10th – Field to Jasper, British Columbia - Day 149
Two days at Monarch campground provided a jumping off point for Yoho, Lake Louise and Banff, and today, we’ll extend that list to Kootenay and Jasper National Parks. We left the campground excited for two new National Parks. We drove into Alberta to Banff before heading back to British Columbia and into Kootenay to Marble Canyon.
Marble Canyon was a sinewy pathway through rock with a river rushing along the bottom. We walked the 1.8 km trail along the canyon, the occasional bridge across the canyon provided great views. On our way out, a helpful ranger let the kids handle some animal skulls and furs, she also swore them in and provided Kootenay dog tags.
Next stop in Kootenay was the Paint Pots trail, a 2 km round trip to see ponds of different colours that the Ktunaxa people would use to create paint. A bridge over another fast-moving river was a bonus.
To be continued...
