We left the lodge finally and headed back down the mountain. We had a brief stop at a waterfall near the side of the road but didn’t take the trail to have a better view. I really wanted to do one more recommended trail, the Twin Firs Trail. It was a winner. Daylight was fading slowly but the trail was a short 0.5-km loop and I wished it was longer. The terrain went up and down and we crossed several small creeks on log bridges. Moss and ferns lined our route as the kids, and Gramma, ran along excited to cross each bridge and go down each hill. The hikes at the base of Mount Ranier were fantastic.
Returning to the car, we had a 2 drive towards Seattle. We settled on Millersylvania State Park, what a name, to spend the night. The drive seemed to keep going on and on. We arrived and after doing three loops of the campground decided to pay a bit extra for power and water – a true treat.
